Chore Chart Challenge PDF

Updated Oct 18, 2024

Dear parents, for the week your Ember is going old school. Self sufficiency and helping the community are important aspects of saving the world, to practice these skills, your Ember will be doing a Chore Chart Challenge! The point of this challenge is to show them that they are quiet capable of looking after themselves, while giving them managable activities that they can accomplish. Give them chores they do not need your assistance with, so they can learn the extent of their own capabilities. Supervise them during the chore, and provide instructions when necessary so the job is done safely and according to your family standards - but do not jump in to make it perfect. It is about quantity and consistency, not perfection.

Chore Chart Challenge Instructions

There are 5 chores to be done daily. Every day, when your child finishes the chore, you initial the box.  We have left the fifth chore blank so you can sit down with your child and choose an appropriate chore that can be completed daily. Some examples are pet care, laundry, and vacuuming.

One chore always causes trouble: tidy your room. This does not mean they need to spend 3 hours sorting out the mess! Instead, fifteen minutes should be devoted to putting away clothes and toys and, if there is time, perhaps even straightening out a shelf or drawer. The chores should take no more than a combined time of 30 minutes.

Christy Bindhardt

My name is Christy Bindhardt and I'm the Brown Owl for the 1st Almonte Brownies. Our unit is usually about 20 girls strong and we have accomplished several challenges over the years like the Brownie Challenge, the 100 Years Badges and the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. Our town is just outside Ottawa and it is the home of James Naismith the inventor of basketball, and Puppets Up our annual international puppet festival.

I started as a Brownie in the 1960's but it wasn't until I had a daughter join Girl Guides that I became really involved. I have been Brown Owl now for 5 years and am a little old fashioned. There are many great badges in guiding but I wanted the 1st Almonte Brownies to be a bit more self sufficient. They have been doing the Chore Chart Challenge for the past 4 years and we have all learned alot. Every year I take the time to show them a few simple and helpful things that seem to have slipped away since I was a girl like how to set a table or how to make a bed. After all Brownies "Lend a Hand" at home as well as everywhere else.
